Download Ebook Free Space Optical Communication Systems Associate Professor Department of ECE Amritsar College of Engineering Technology Amritsar Punjab India (FSO-2017), this is a great books that I think.
Free Space Optics (FSO) is a telecommunications technology that transmits data in the form of optical signals across the air and, as such, can be considered as a wireless (line-of-sight) transmission system; this technology is capable of handling data rates at the Gbps level, does not require licensing, and can be deployed at one-fifth of the cost of fiber; also, the narrow beams employed in the transmission of signals are very difficult to be affected by jamming, interception or interference . The Free Space Optical (FSO) communication is also known as Wireless Optical Communication (WOC), Fibreless, or Laser Communication (Lasercom). An optical wireless (OW) or Free Space Optics (FSO) link can be established using Lasers or light emitting diode (LED) between any two line of sight points in free space for a certain link distance, enabling point-to-point data links at rates exceeding 1 Gbits/s. Lasers work in the visible and near infrared spectrum of the electromagnetic radiations. The inherent advantage of using lasers for establishing connection between two geographically separated line of sight points provides a well-focused narrow beam that on one hand is secured and on the other hand is less scattered as it traverses the free space mostly the earth atmosphere. OW is now finding niche applications both in military as well as commercial services sectors and is being researched for scenarios involving communication between fixed as well as mobile platforms. Few of the potential application scenarios of OW links are transmission links between satellites, links for deep space missions, links between unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), high altitude platforms (HAP), data links from earth to satellites and re- establishing high speed connections in case of emergency or disaster recovery situations. The optical beam traversing through the earth atmosphere is attenuated by absorption and scattering of radiation from fog, clouds, snow, rain, sleet and dust etc. This attenuation is typically dominated by fog, clouds and snow. However, the attenuation due to snow, rain and sleet etc., is generally less significant as compared to signal transmission through fog and clouds, such that the optical signal becomes weak enough that the communication system will cease to operate. The real challenge to these optical wireless links arise in the presence of different fog conditions: as the size of the fog particles is comparable to the optical wavelengths used for transmission. Quality of FSO links however is greatly affected by weather conditions and link distance. Free Space Optics (FSO) is a very fast and reliable endorsement to radio links using light to transmit data. In this book, the characteristics and properties of several important design parameters in FSO communication systems are discussed using the Optisystem analysis tool and the study is based on the proposed FSO link for the outdoor use in FSO system and the detailed discussion of the parameters which are the major concern in evaluation of the link performance degradation by the atmospheric turbulences. In this book, analysis is based on the simulated free space optics link by varying input power, data rates and link distance for different modulation formats. We have used different modulation schemes like NRZ and RZ ,etc. The two different wavelengths such as 1550 nm and 1310 nm are used in the FSO link.
